Info Sheet - Calvin Williams

SP5 Crew Chief of slick 494 - (70 - 71)

………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Input from Jack Nemeyer:

Jan 2014:

Calvin stayed in the Army and retired....I contacted him some time ago; he lives in Texas

Early in 70 aircraft 494 was on a mission to extract a LRRP team, night mission and we had a gun team from Tay Ninh ( The RAT PACK ) doing the Cover work. On a '"close up and personal" gun run they shot up the tail boom of #494 while it was on the ground picking up the LRRP's.... !! This happened before Calvin took over the AC... Johnson was the CE at the time.. Thats why in pictures you will see a D-Troop slick with a really ugly looking tail boom..

Input from Allen "KC" Allcock:

Calvin Williams was one one of my maintenance crew. I do not remember his time of arrival to "D" Troop, but I believe it was the fall/ late fall of 1969. He was a great mechanic and worked well with the others in job performance, and as his supervisor, I never had any grief with him. He was very dependable and when we had the chance to socialize, he became a part of and mingled well with all. I understand that after my departure from the Troop, he became a crew chief on slicks.
