Info Sheet - Lambert

Wayne Moose says:
I flew as door gunner with this guy (LAMBERT) on a slick #???. He was from the Ozarks. Way back up in the sticks.

He was very gunho on going to flight school. I have no idea if he made it. The picture of him shows where a round came through the co-pilots right side window hitting the chrome strip at the top of sliding part of the window (it was down at the time) and continued through the covy holes behind the co-pilot. The second round just missed my head, ( I was on the right side) lodging in soundproofing and the third round struck the tail boom.

All this happened within a matter of seconds. It startled the pilot and he almost stood the slick on its tail. The AC grabbed the controls and we made a quick unscheduled landing in a soccer field; where, I have no idea.

I do remember that we were flying a full bird colonel around to different areas and landing and refueling so often that the colonel told lambert and myself we didn,t have to keep loading and unloading our 60's because we were in secure areas. We weren't in the air but just a minute or so after he told us that and we were HOSED.

The AC came on the intercom and said frankly colonel I don't think much of your DAMN secure areas. When we landed the colonel just stood there and said not a damn word!

Oh well that explains the picture in question. PS the copilot was from CA. and very short if my memory serves me correctly. he was somewhat shook up to say the least and pissed!!!
