The Australian Phillip McGuire Mystery

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Attention Centaurs serving in 1972-73 - The Phillip John McGuire Mystery Continues: (Nov 2022)

Can you identify an Australian soldier serving with the Centaurs at Lai Khe named Phillip John McGuire probably a Corporal. "The Skinny Kid who could see threw trees"

We received this email from his son in law:
"Hi there, i have been trying to get some more information if available of Phillip john McGuire.
Australian army but believed he may have been under United States Army at the time. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Phillp John McGuire Service number 1204649
He has recently passed and we (his wife and I) came across this medal and letter in his belongings. Im his son in law Rob Heidenrijk. Thank you so much for you time.”

Attached was a photo of a Purple Heart and this letter:

Our CPT Greg Jones (1973) says that it is not him.

The MAJ Greg Jones signs the letter as belonging to D Trp, 3/4 Cav which if it even existed then (1980) would have been in Hawaii. The term “Flying Centaurs” seems strange also.

Any ideas? Bruce Powelll <powellcentaur@gmail.com> or "Frank Dillon" <dillon@casstel.net>,
