Allen "KC" Allcock: There is so much I should know about this Trooper. If I recall correctly, "Jim" had served a stint in the Air Force, then came over to the Army. He told me that making rank in the Army was much faster than what the Air Force had to offer and that mattered to him since I assumed that he planned to make the military his life career.. He was In country when I arrived, and served as a crewmember on the slicks. Somehow, I seem to recall that he served in Army Infantry for a short while before becoming a slick crewmember. I do recall that he had already been through "trials of fire" before I knew him. Some gave him the nickname of "Pappy" and I also gave him the nickname of "Barney." I don't think my nickname stuck. He took all incidents in stride, showing great reactions in calm and in storm. Back in 2005, I made contact with him, inviting him to our 2006 Kansas City Reunion, but he did not come. I recall he was living in Arizona at that time.
