Info Sheet - Dale Kyette Porterfield

United States Army Specialist 4 Dale K. Porterfield served with F Troop (Air), 4th Cavalry Regiment. He was gunner aboard a UH-1H Huey helicopter while assisting the recovery of two downed Air Force Pilots. The aircraft was hit with an SA-7 surface to air missile and crashed in an area heavy with North Vietnamese Army forces.

Three other crewmen; pilot, CWO William C. Jesse; co-pilot, WO John J. Petrilla and crew chief, Spec 4 Charles V. Morgan were classified as Missing In Action along with passenger, CPT Joseph M. Berkson, an ARVN Advisor.

Seven week later, on 20 July 1972 the wreckage was located and their remains were recovered; and in early in 1973 he was identified.
