Obituary of Garnet O. Holcomb

Died March 24, 2003 - 52 yrs old

Mr. Garnet Odell Holcomb, 52, of Nakina, died Monday, March 24, 2003, in VA Medical Center, Durham (Cancer). He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Owen Glenn and Theodoshia Hendrick Holcomb. Mr. Holcomb was a correction officer with DOC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He retired from U.S. Army Reserve after 23 years of service. He formerly was employed with Braxton Auto Parts.

Funeral service with military honors were conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines. Interment at Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.

He is survived by two sons, Kyle and Joshua Holcomb of Whiteville; a daughter, Ashley Holcomb of Whiteville; three brothers, James Furman Holcomb and wife Johnnie Rose, John Owen Holcomb and wife Betty, all of Whiteville, Hilton R. Holcomb and wife Joyce of Ocean Isle Beach; a sister, Sharon Holcomb Enyart of Leeds, AL; a special friend, Roger Chestnut of Nakina. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Holcomb Williamson.

Allen Allcock remembers him from his Maintenance Crew by the nickname "Ding".
