Obituary

Larry Charles Carroll, age 66, went peacefully home to the Lord on Friday, March 25, 2011 at his home in Victoria, Texas. He was born Feb. 21, 1945 to the late A.B. and Inez (Rodgers) Carroll in Gonzales.

After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawaii at Schofield Barricks and the 25th Infantry Division. He was then deployed to Vietnam where he flew more than 100 missions over enemy territory as an aerial door gunner on a U.S. helicopter during the war.

He received multiple medals including an Air Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Expeditionary Medal, Division Unit Citation, Army Commendation Medal with Valor, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Ribbon, Machine Gun Expert Badge, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Grenade Marksman Badge, and a Driver-Wheel Mechanic Badge.

After returning from Vietnam, he married and had three children. He was a wonderful man and loving father and will be dearly missed.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children: Varchia Green and husband, Timothy, of Victoria, Robert Carroll, of Victoria, and John T. Carroll, of Copperas Cove; his grandchildren who adored him: Ashley Green, Reagan Green, Ryan Green, and Sheldon Carroll, all of Victoria; and his sister, Maryann Hendrickson and husband, James, of Vidor.

Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, March 31, from 1-2 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Round Lake Cemetery near Smiley.
